There are many different videos of Neil Young singing the song "OLD MAN".
The particular video below is my favorite.
The Lyrics that I have posted below the two videos are poignant and chilling in their reality for those like myself who have grown old.
The song, I think, also says that the way a young person views, or should view life is not so very much different than that of an older person's. Granted an older person would know more of the hardships and the trials and difficulties of life, but this song has a way of saying that things aren't that easy or don't come that easy for younger people too.
Truly, this is the type of song that can mean whatever you want it to. They don't call people like Neil Young music ARTISTS for no reason. A picture or painting says a thousand words, a song such as this can say millions.
Many of us remember Neil at 24 and aged right along with him. I always think he is singing this to me.
OLD MAN
ANOTHER VERSION OF OLD MAN FROM 2006
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
And there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
That don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
The whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
And you can tell that's true.
Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
The whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
And you can tell that's true.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
