WHAT WILL BE YOUR LEGACY? DO YOU EVEN CARE?
My peace is gone and my heart is heavy, I know this to be a truth about me that I will carry to my grave. It seems as if I have always felt this way and it is who I am.
But for some reason, compassion and trying to advocate for others has also, always been part of my being, both as a human being, as well as a Professional.
Often it seems silly, completely absurd for me to be this way because I do not believe in the "good" of others, yet at the same time I also acutely feel the pain of those who are truly vulnerable, no doubt through the tragedies in my own life.
None of this is supposed to make sense, as there is little that is left in this world that is rational, especially where people care about the lives of others.
Cruelty, indifference, self interest, greed, hate are the societal norms of what the human race is about, and the culture embraced by so many. It is practiced mostly by apathy and also by more aggressive deliberately hurtful actions.
Either way, the results are the same and there is no such thing as being "less cruel" when it comes to overtly or covertly ignoring the cries of those in need. You can hide behind your self imposed ignorance, or your arrogance, but you must know it's a chosen facade of narcissistic cowardice on your part.
Those " vulnerable, in need" have been reduced by corrupt politicians, hate mongers, banksters, corporations, your neighbors, yes even you, to stereotype sound bites, perhaps wringing your hands in sympathy, rhetoric slogans of the "vulnerable" being lazy, unimportant, "the problem", not cost effective, whatever works to divert attention from the real causes of this worlds inhumanity.
All of this has been reduced, designed to effectively dehumanize those in need as being real people. It's so much easier to further political, social agendas to despise others and blame them, when they become faceless, no humans.
In fact dumping on the most vulnerable, the needy in society, the old, disabled, those who are ill, defenseless children, the poor, the honest, truly struggling human beings whose lives have fallen apart due to circumstances beyond their control, has been conveniently, magically combined to equate to being the scam artists, the "takers", the "welfare cheats" so that it becomes easier for the world to dismiss them all as worthless, and somehow you are " better" then them.
Reality is that for most of you reading this, there is not much difference between your life and "them". In a flash of a second, you can be reduced to the pile of throwaway, disposable lives that you never can imagine will happen to you or your family.
In a nano second you can become a victim, or the family of a victim, and bitterly taste forever the agony, pain, of injustice, loss, and endless grief.
No wonder most of you live in denial and la la fantasy land, because you are too frightened to face that which many of us who used to be like you, have now become.
It's understandable for you to live in your "bubble" but it should be also unacceptable for anyone to believe that somehow those that are less fortunate "deserve their problems" or in someway are different than you.
Whether you like it or not, we will all die one day. I don't believe in god, so there is a reasonable chance that you won't be judged for heaven or hell based on your actions, inaction's while on this earth. I don't believe there is a heaven or hell, but you will be judged by those who knew you, your loved ones, and perhaps your own soul.
It's known as a legacy, aptly stated in the image at the top of this post as "the things you do for others".
It's not about how much money you made, how 'rich" financially you are or what kinds of material possessions you consume, nor how many times you pray to your god.
It's about how you treat others that constitutes what you have done with your time on this earth.
I would like to believe that we are here on earth to do good to others. What the others are
here for, I do not know, nor do I think they care.
As
the Thalmud says: "For this reason man was created alone, to teach you
that whoever destroys a single soul, he is guilty as though he had
destroyed a complete world; and whoever preserves a single soul, it is
as though he had preserved a whole world."
Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.
