The attorneys for Levi Aron, the man who confessed to killing and dismembering 8-year-old Hasidic boy Leiby Kletzky, have already defended themselves from criticisms once—but it seems they had to do it again yesterday, as a Brooklyn judge laced into the two for how they've handled the case so far.  

"What I am questioning is whether counsel has enough experience for a trial of this type of case," said Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Neil Firetog.


Justice Firetog called the hearing to reprimand attorneys Pierre Bazile and Jennifer McCann for a series of goofs and gaffes during the pre-trial for Aron. According to the Times, he scolded them for complaining about the release of public documents, for discussing the case on their Facebook pages, and for not providing the Department of Correction an approved list of visitors for their client. 

He also questioned them over why they didn't stop Aron from giving an interview to the Daily News while in Rikers: "You're claiming your client's incompetent, and you're relying on him to make decisions?"


McCann defended using Facebook, saying she was responding to a group that was harassing her: “It was the quickest, easiest way to resolve my issues so the phone lines aren’t clogged up. I have a business to run, Your Honor.” The judge also wagged his finger at Bazile for misspelling “canon,” as it relates to ethics: “Two N’s means a cannon that shoots at something.”


Separate from their court apperance, McCann and Bazile gave formal notice that they would introduce psychiatric evidence at the trial, a filing necessary to pursue an insanity defense. Aron was previously found mentally competent to stand trial, despite a psychiatric evaluation which found that he has a personality disorder.

WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN GOIN ON

Since my previous Blog post you know that I have cut my television connection to the outside world. Yesterday I was thankfully spared the endless noise of the world media hype of the "humongous earthquake" that hit the East Coast of the United States.


Truth is, I never even felt the 5.8 magnitude earthquake and only found out when the UPS driver told me about it while dropping off a package.


Strange, as I can usually sense when a pin drops, yet I never had an inkling of the earth moving. Can't say I was oblivious in deep thought and missed the sensation, but it just didn't register on my Jerry Richter scale.


In the immortal words of the Rock and Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis there was a "WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN GOIN ON"
 

In fact, earthquakes, as are many other destructive acts of nature, should never to be fucked with, and always to be taken seriously, so I momentarily wondered about standing under the door jamb (with it's 1/8th piece of embedded metal) to protect myself against aftershocks, or getting out of the house with my swim trunks on, in preparation for any upcoming Tsunami.


Considering the recent horribly devastating earthquakes around the world in Japan, New Zealand, China, Indonesia, this was a rather tiny movement of the earth, that didn't really stir me one way or another. Yet it had instantly become such a big mass hysteria medial event to so many Americans.


I have been consistently pointing out on this Blog that the general consensus of what passes for modern humanity is, that most people think in terms of "I and Me" in other words, "if its not happening to me, it is not happening".


This earthquake had happened here, many experienced a rolling feeling, and this was real to them, not some thing "make believe' in a foreign land, that that they could distance themselves from by the ever successful use of denial.


The beasts within people were beginning to emerge. Survival of the fittest strategies were hatched in the minds of those who are prepared for these kinds of sudden, unexpected challenges.


In the chaos, I imagined people secretly planning their individual survival plans as they went into their, "you’ll see society begin to unravel, the apocalypse is here.”

I thought about the visions of panic in the streets in the major cities on the East Coast, egged on by the usual suspect media reports of possible catastrophic scenarios, similar to the reports before a 4 inch snow storm, that will cause hordes of the public to descend on their local supermarket to pick bare every carton of milk, loaf of bread, bottled water, and anything not nailed down.


There must have been near chaos in the streets. People  were even texting on their smart phones and reported, pale-faced and trembling, a mere four out of five bars of service, or worse, no cell service at all.


I am sure it is true that god has had a protective hedge around America. But give him/her a break, blame your shitty cell phone problems on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T Mobile, not god.


I did go on the Internet, the vestal of accurate reporting of the truth, where I learned the true causes of today's earthquake were many, but my favorite ones were that:


"The epicenter in Mineral Springs, Virginia is not a coincidence rather part of the plot harkening to the name Louis and The US Plot to since WW1 take down The Monarchy and install Puppet Democracies using MK ULTRA Mind Control. At its highest echelons the entire Government is operated using hypnotic mind control. I know as I am former CIA and a hypnotic MK ULTRA Operative seeking asylum from The US Government for utilizing me against my Free Will,” a man informed us, within moments, with many more capital letters.


Another true cause of the Earthquake was described by a person who stated that it was a warning from guess who, yep god.


You know god, that supposedly angry, mean, vicious, vindictive god, "because Americans are letting foreign Americans push god out of our country. There is a great push in America to advance Islam and the devil has his schemes, the earthquake is the lord warning us to repent and stop evicting him from the U.S.A ."


Soon the politicians will chime in with their all knowing intelligence of an amoeba. “This is doubly bad,” Rick Perry will say. “First, because it was caused by government, and second because it was caused by science.” 

Others will warn it is because of the "menace" of Gay Citizens of the United States, or the acceptance of legal marriage between Gay people in certain States. 


I’m sure this will come up also with the Tea Party. “Get government out of the business of shaking our homes!”, they will mutter. “That ought to be left to the states and god.”


President Obama, not to be left out, will say “If Republicans in Congress were willing to put their nation before their vacation, they might have stopped this. I, too, have a plan, but I cannot show it to you until I get off of Martha's Vineyard, on Cape Cod.”


Naturally, the government from Washington D.C  to every major city had almost shut down yesterday and everyone was evacuating as fast as they can. It is the only thing to do when the shit hits the fan in America.

Clearly there is a whole lot of weird shit taking place in the world from climate change that "doesn't exist", to political revolutions in parts of the world never imaginable, and our very own USA government teetering on default of its financial credit. I mean this is all some serious, strange shit going on, and now the biggest earthquake on the East Coast in a hundred years.


This is not supposed to happen here in the good ole U.S.A. I thought that was why we sacrificed Anthony Weiner and his other infidel colleagues with their text crazed sinful skin body flicks, sent to "admirers". 

Next we’re going to have locusts descending across the Plains, and the Oceans will part in the middle. Anything is possible in these trying times.


Like most things that start as a vague screw up near Washington, It rumbled through the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and even Maine. 

Some even felt it in Detroit, but it might have been something they ate, plus all the residents of California now are poking fun at the wimps of the East Coast being afraid of what is an almost everyday occurrence in their great State.


Of course this is the same State of California that will soon be falling into the Pacific Ocean either from a gigantic earthquake, or just from the sheer weight of the debt their State owes to the world.


The federal government was wondering about whether the buildings will be safe for nonessential personnel to return, today. 

My vote is for them to stay home, I don't think it is safe for the government to be operational during "normal" times, let alone during a time of stress on the earths surface, any  more after shocks might just send them over the edge of their desks. 

If that should happen, then FEMA will take over and destroy what is left by ultimately having the current President proclaim to the Director of FEMA, as former President George W. Bush's infamous classic delusional comment in 2005, to FEMA chief Michael D. Brown, while the latter was so incompetent in a complete and total screw-up of the federal response to the city of New Orleans in response to the massive aftermath of the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina  : "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

I DID IT MY WAY, COLD TURKEY

The other day I cancelled my Television subscription service, cold turkey, just did it.


I actually had decided over 3 years ago to cancel my television service, but somehow I never did get around to do it. I had continued to invent some excuse or another, and avoided making it happen.


TV had become as ancient and useless to me as the ad below exhorting consumers of 50 years ago to buy a black and white television.

Now that I have no television service it is OK, really isn’t that bad, it’s a kind of trash purge. No more TV garbage, no more channel surfing over 500 channels and finding nothing to watch. And then I’d get my monthly bill and curse that I was paying so much money for this "privilege".

Finally the other day while watching some streaming live news on my laptop, it finally hit me, I could stay in touch with the parts of the media and 2 other series shows that I do watch, by using my computer for this purpose. 

There are even inexpensive gadgets that allow the computer signal to be wirelessly transmitted to your TV, if you want to still have a big screen experience.


It had come to a point where I barely ever even turned my television on. It just made sense to me, I got rid of it. My pocket and brain are grateful.


Most of my tiny list of programs are on the Internet – Hulu, Netflix, the network online websites. I’m covered for the very few things that I still want to watch. So, here’s to the joys of no TV and no more monthly bill.


I have now cut the chains to television and join the cyber world of streaming media as my sole media interface.

                  I DID IT MY WAY

As I write this, talking about a seemingly benign act on my part, it  has brought me back to thoughts about my son Steven Nathaniel Wolkoff, who was one of the original pioneers of developing the rich streaming media process to transmit video/audio content to millions of computer users, all watching at the same time various content on the Internet, without the servers crashing from overload.


They often called Steven "Mr. Flash", named after his role in further developing the Flash Player corporate version of the streaming software that is an integral part of how media actually ends up being seen, heard as content that is alive on your computer screen.


I remember Steven talking about the technical challenges of many of the different team projects he supervised, what he was doing, his solutions, ideas, and the enormous potential he said it would mean for a revolutionary new way to view media.


I sort of understood some of what he was saying but technically he was light years beyond my ability to follow the sheer magnitude of what he and and others were working on.


Steven knew and saw some of his dreams come true, this was one of them. Unfortunately, he also never got to see so much of what was his legacy, his future life, and the every day pleasures of being alive, that the rest of us take for granted.

I write this Blog in loving memory, dedicated to my son Steven, and others such as him who are the victims of such evil, injustice, and the acts of those who do not care about the value of a human life.


As a professional Social Worker I have seen so much tragedy throughout my long career, and witnessed unspeakable pain, suffering, of the human condition by tiny baby's, toddlers, little children, adolescents,  young adults, adults, Senior citizens.


It is something that I never got used to witnessing as both a professional and a human being. It often is the driving force behind what I choose to write about on this blog.


So I dedicate in particular, today's Blog post, to my son Steven, I am so very proud of what you accomplished in your short time on this earth, you taught me so many things.

I miss you Steven, and I love you very much.

WHAT IF GOD WAS ONE OF US?

After a comprehensive investigation by me of various publications, documents, and other resources, the consensus appears that god is currently separately backing at least three different contenders for the Republican presidential nomination. 


Over the course of the past few months and even years, god has sent signs and direct messages to each of these candidates encouraging them to run, presumably without telling them that he supports other candidates as well.

Before I reveal the results of my investigation, the truth is god has his hands full right now with other priorities as well. The world is disintegrating in front of us on a daily basis and god is only one super being.

 As an example of the huge problems god is trying hard to fix, listen, watch one of my favorite songs about god  'WHAT IF GOD WAS ONE OF US", BY JOAN OSBORNE.

Now onto the findings of god and the 2012 presidential candidates in the USA-GOD BLESS AMERICA
 
Herman Cain: When Cain's granddaughter was born in 1999, Cain says his first thought upon holding her was, "What do I do to make this a better world?" Cain told Christian radio host Bryan Fischer in January, "I know that that had to be God almighty sending that thought through my mind." That's the background for what happened twelve years later. 

While campaigning for president around December of 2010, Cain was feeling tired and discouraged when he received a direct sign from God that he must continue.

Cain has also heard from God more directly, as he told a tea party rally in April:

Cain told the crowd about his battle with cancer in 2006, saying he's been "totally cancer free" for the past five years.

"You want to know why? God said, 'Not yet Herman,'" Cain told the crowd. "God said, 'Not yet. I've got something else for you to do.' And it might be to become the president of the United States of America."

Rick Santorum: At the same time God was encouraging Herman Cain to run for president, he was also telling Rick Santorum to throw his hat in the race. 


As Karen Santorum told CBN's David Brody in May about her husband's decision to run for president, "It really boils down to God's will. What is it that God wants? ... We have prayed a lot about this decision, and we believe with all our hearts that this is what God wants."

I suppose when Santorum was voted out of office in Pennsylvania as Senator in 2006 by 18 percentage points because his Constituents hated him, he takes the next logical step, and runs for President.


Michele Bachmann: Michele Bachmann fresh from winning the Iowa GOP Caucus, has said that God has been quietly encouraging her to run for president as well. 

As Bachmann told World Net Daily in 2009, she would never run without God's personal endorsement:
  
"If I felt that's what the Lord was calling me to do, I would do it," she answered. "When I have sensed that the Lord is calling me to do something, I've said yes to it. But I will not seek a higher office if God is not calling me to do it. That's really my standard."If I am called to serve in that realm I would serve," she concluded, "but if I am not called, I wouldn't do it.

Bachmann recently confirmed that she has, indeed, "had that calling and that tugging on my heart". 

As we know, Bachmann does have a serious problem speaking any coherent words, in sentences that make sense, so while the above statements from her seem to be mostly totally confusing, you can get the gist of what she is saying, god told her to run for President, but if god told her to run for dog catcher, she would do that instead.

god hasn't been universally generous with his support such as letting Mike Huckabee know that he shouldn't run for president, lest he take his focus off the much more important task producing a series of profit making conservative American history DVDs, called "The War On Terror", shamelessly hawking the horrors of the 9/11 World Trade Center Tragedy (only $9.95, plus $3.95 shipping and handling, along with 4 Free Gifts valued at $50.Then, about once a month, he will automatically gladly ship you the next DVD in the series, for a higher price, of course ).

Although god arranged for Sarah Palin to be chosen as John McCain's running mate in 2008, there's nothing to indicate that he backs her potential candidacy in 2012. Nevertheless, she may receive a message from god any day now, to also run for president.

Really, this is getting somewhat confusing. What could god be up to in backing all of these different politicians? Also, why no Democrat or Independent candidates are hearing  the word from god to run for President?  I mean, it should be a fair, equal distribution of candidates from all walks of political life selected by god, and endorsed as worthy to be President.

Perhaps, god has been using his/her own political action committees to hide contributions and support for various other candidates, of all political affiliations, as part of the new election lobbyists laws, sort of hedging bets, making a fair contest between favorites, who just have not revealed his support of them.

Although lets be real, whomever god really wants to be President, will be in the end determined by god. So I wanted to get god's views on this confusion.

Alas, at the time I posted this, god was not available to me for comment, however a spokesperson says, god was too busy assisting a baseball player hit a game-winning home run, giving an elderly poor lady the winning lottery numbers, working on the food crisis in Africa, ending Wars, trying to stop world wide child abuse, killing of innocent good people all over the globe, helping someone survive a heart attack, seeking  a cure for Cancer, Leukemia, many other horrible diseases, and mostly battling the forces of evil that are destroying our world. In other words, god has a full plate to deal with right now, and the elections aren't until next year.

I am also waiting for the inevitable speech where god will run the country through Rick Perry's hands as he prays:
"Blessed be the rich, for they are righteous in the eyes of God, blessed be the poor, for they are humble in the eyes of the lord, damned be those who are in between the righteous and the humble, for they have not prospered like the righteous, nor sacrificed like the humble."

So, my take on all of this is if these people are really "hearing voices"...then I think they all need to get their heads examined..in fact, I'd insist on it. It's like the old saying - "if you talk to god, you're religious. And if god talks back, you're schizophrenic". 

ONLY THREE DAYS IN AMERICA

Today is August 15th, 2011, the beginning of a new week. 


I was thinking of several important topics to write for today's blog when I noticed news of the past few days, once again about unbelievable but true "alleged" horrific murders, injuries of little children, innocent lives destroyed by the hands of adults, often their  very own parents.


What shocked me (yes I still get shocked) about these horrible deaths, injuries of these children is that there are so many in ONLY THE PAST THREE DAYS, that not only was I not aware of any of them, but the media does not report about  most of these killings, beatings of children any longer.



As I have said in previous blog posts, the global society has deteriorated, literally fallen apart, to the point of such severe dysfunction, that it has become immune to the killing, beating, abuse of innocent little children, and treats it as a "normal", everyday occurrence, as if it were an acceptable, unimportant, and not media "worthy" of bringing it to the public attention.



The public appears to be complicit with this denial of how immoral, and sick the world is, and simply does not want to know about anything that will upset the tidy make believe "bubbles" that they live in. In many cases people are too busy trying to survive against repressive, cruel governments that are busy crushing them.


That is the reason that I post these types of topics, as painful and ugly they are to read. If people don't know, ignore, or consciously choose to not be aware of these horrible events, then nothing will ever change.


This is just from America, I haven't even attempted to cover other countries and the rest of the globe. This is NOT an abuse isolated to America. This is a shameful, reprehensible abusing way of life that degrades, kills human beings, and children all over the world.



The world is one huge mess, not just America, and no one reading this anywhere in the world should feel smug about their own homeland, as not one country has shown it is doing anything meaningful to truly address the needs of their most vulnerable people .




Make NO mistake about it, this is a world wide epidemic of disrespect for human life, in particular that of children whether through abuse, indentured slavery, selling of human beings, child slave labor, cultural/religious punishments, ignoring the individual human rights of people, or simply starving children to death.




The end result in all cases of child abuse, no matter how different the method, results in treating the value of a human life as cheap and disposable, like a paper cup.

10.9 million children under 5 years of age die in developing countries every year from malnutrition or hunger related diseases, which cause 60% of these deaths.

The above statistic translates into real human lives of ONE innocent child dies every SIX seconds in the developing world, the time it took you to read this one short sentence

So rather than my picking a story for you to read in today's Blog Post, I give you a smorgasbord, a plethora of truly horrific events happening to children in ONLY THE PAST THREE DAYS IN AMERICA. 

Each one, so disgusting in detail, that I can't even decide the "most important" of them to write about in memory of a specific child. They ALL make ill to read. 


Me, I read them all, it's my way of at least acknowledging that these children are human beings, that they lived, I care about what has happened.  

America, as the "most civilized" society, yes it has come to this, in cruelty, indifference and selfishness, we wave the flag.

Forget for a second the systemic complex causes of child abuse, focus on the incidents that can be prevented by other family members, neighbors, friends, who are  aware of the long term abuse of these children, but say, do nothing.

No one close to these children seems to get involved BEFORE these acts take place.

Go ahead and pick the murder of the day of a child, the beating of the moment, that you want to read about, perhaps instead, delete this post to my Blog, or simply delete my entire Blog from your computer bookmarks, and read about something more important elsewhere.

Don't upset yourself with my blog post, instead watch the news of Google buying the Motorola cell phone division, Tiger Woods in the PGA, the latest reality TV show, politicians, Paris Hilton, sports, so many other enjoyable choices to divert your attention.

WHO WILL SPEAK UP FOR THESE CHILDREN AS VICTIMS?

WHO WILL PROTECT, SAVE THE CHILDREN THAT WILL BE KILLED AND INJURED IN THE NEXT THREE DAYS AND BEYOND?

IT'S ALL TOO UGLY TO THINK ABOUT FOR MOST PEOPLE. 

WISHING IT AWAY WON'T STOP IT.

WHAT WILL?

YOUR MEDICAL CARE, I SAID, DOCTOR, MR. M.D., CAN YOU TELL ME, WHATS AILING ME?

You know those old sayings that 'hospitals are the most dangerous places in the world"? Or "stay away from too many Doctor visits or they will find something wrong with you"?


I have always believed that to be the truth and my advice to any patient and their loved ones, is to be extremely proactive, aggressive about every piece of your medical care, whether it is in a Doctors office, Mental Health Practitioner, or at a Hospital.


I share these facts with you not to scare you but to educate and make as many people aware that YOU are the person ultimately in charge of YOUR medical care WITH your medical provider.


Don't be passive and assume that the very best will be done for you or that " Good Lovin" as the Rascals sang in their their great song will be enough to heal you.


                    GOOD LOVIN

Whether it is a "simple" examination, procedure, or highly complex, always ask questions. Take a written list that you have prepared before, of what you want to ask, into your appointment, then ask each question, if you are unable to do so, have someone else ask the questions, write down the answers, about every aspect of your medical care, from the tiniest unusual looking pill being given to you, to the actual touching of your body for examination, and suggested procedures.


Always get a second opinion from a medical provider not involved with the same medical practice, preferably not even from the same hospital affiliation, if it involves a medical surgical procedure, or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable about going ahead with what you have been advised.


This is your body and before anyone messes with it, you need to be as certain as you can be, that the advice being given to you is in your best interest.


If the medical provider does not want to answer your questions or has no time to answer, fire him or her, and find yourself one that does. You wouldn't allow dismissive behavior from your auto mechanic, or when buying a computer, why would you allow it for something more important, your own health or that of a loved one.


Some of my best friends are the Doctors who are in charge of my own medical care. They are special human beings who I have worked long and hard to find. None of them are afraid of my asking as many questions as I want, and all are very much aware that they do not have the "god like" answers that a large amount of their colleagues claim to possess. I trust them with my life and they view me as Jerry, a human being, that is the way each person/medical provider ideally should feel in the "business" of medical care.


My "Jerry" theory about medical providers from all the fields involving human care, is that they are no different than the dysfunctional people we are subjected to in every messed up system that we interact with in modern society.


My theory regarding these medical human care providers is that 10 % are incompetent and will eventually kill you regardless of whether you're proactive or not about your medical care. 80% of Doctors are mediocre and are capable of eventually killing you whether you're proactive or not about your medical care. The other 10% are the highest rated Doctors, they are very competent, but unless you are proactive about your medical care, they may accidentally kill you.


By the way, medical providers when it comes to medical errors are equal opportunity care givers, they will kill or injure their own colleagues as often as a regular patient.


Hospitals often have a way to make their errors and mistakes disappear or suddenly read in the medical files very differently than what has in fact truly happened. I have always believed that and every year we read reports of the many thousands of known deaths, injuries, caused by hospital/medical errors but I suspect that is the very tip of the iceberg, as there are likely many hundreds of thousands medical errors that remain unreported which injure and kill patients, also known as human beings to the rest of us.

As an example California State health officials are expressing skepticism about the reports filed by dozens of California hospitals they have not had a single significant medial error involving a patient in the past three years. 

Since the law took effect, 87 of the state’s 418 hospitals have reported no significant errors, the  L.A. Times reported Sunday. Jamie Court, president of the Santa Monica-based group Consumer Advocate says such a large number of error-free hospitals, more than 20 percent, is "almost inconceivable".


It is an accepted estimated figure by the medical profession that close to 100,000 people die each year in the USA from medical errors made in hospitals. It is likely that this figure is much too low and that at least 200,000 deaths or more are caused by Hospital Errors in the USA.


The Texas Medical Institute of Technology also estimates that at least, 200,000 human beings die each year from preventable medical errors and countless more are injured.


 
Don Berwick, administrator for the Centers for Medicare And Medicaid Services Dangers of hospital negligence, said "As many as one in seven, maybe even one in three of every hospital admission or patients are injured by the care that's supposed to help them".




This week we are informed by A RECENT STUDY that there is actually a great deal of truth, and much, much more to the manner in which Hospitals  Doctors, harm, injure, kill their patients.


Medical errors and the problems they can cause — including bed sores, post-op infections and implant or device complications — cost the U.S. economy $19.5 billion in 2008, according to a study released today.


The study, commissioned by the Society of Actuaries and carried out by the actuarial and consulting firm Milliman, is based on insurance claims data. The cost estimate includes medical costs, costs associated with increased mortality rate and lost productivity, and covers what the authors describe as a conservative estimate of 1.5 million measurable errors. The report estimates the errors caused more than 2,500 avoidable deaths and over 10 million lost days of work.


A couple of things make this study stand apart from previous studies (including this one, or this one), Jim Toole, the chairman of the SOA’s project oversight group, who proposed the study a few years ago. First, the sample size is bigger, starting with a data set of 24 million people. It also used control groups to calculate the cost-of-care differential between a patient who sustained an error-caused injury and a similar patient who wasn’t injured.


And finally, says Toole, these were neutral data, collected for another reason, which means they’re less subject to bias than data aggregated for the sole purpose of counting errors.


Toole also says "We have wonderful information in this country about automobile safety and how in the last 20 years we’ve reduced highway deaths by 35% … but we have no starting point for medical errors or injuries"


According to the World Health Organization," Millions of people die each year from medical errors and infections linked to health care and going into hospitals. Your chances of dying due to an error in health care would be 1 in 300".


You have only one life. There are no do overs for you if someone who is supposed to help, screws up instead. 

Ask my dead son Steven Nathaniel Wolkoff and many more hundreds of thousands of other dead human beings who had no one there to protect them and trusted that they were being medically aided properly by competent professionals, but were killed instead by the incompetence on the part of those very same licensed medical providers who were there supposedly to help save their lives . 

The dead can't answer, because dead means forever.
